How to Install and Remove a John Deere 46 Backhoe



The John Deere 46 Backhoe is an innovative backhoe made exclusively for the John Deere 2032R, 2520, 2720, 4100, 4110 and 4115 Compact Utility Tractors.  This backhoe’s innovative design maximizes performance and digging force. 

The 46 Backhoe is not only a powerful piece of equipment, but it’s also a breeze to use and hook up.  If you’re thinking about purchasing a 46 backhoe, or you already own one and need help taking it on and off your tractor, this step-by-step guide will show you everything you need to know about installing and removing the 46 backhoe – in no time at all. 

 
*Note: Wearing Gloves is Recommended due to working with Hydraulic Fluids and functioning machinery*
 

Installing the John Deere 46 Backhoe:



 

Step 1: Connect Hydraulic Hoses

  • Back tractor into position over backhoe subframe, then turn off tractor. 
  • Disconnect Power Beyond hose (A) from female coupler (B) and connect to backhoe hose.
  • Connect backhoe hose with male coupler to female coupler (B).
   


 

Step 2: Connect Backhoe to Tractor

  • Use stabilizer controls to position hooks (C) on backhoe subframe in line with draft link pins (D) on tractor near mounting support. 
  • Back tractor until subframe hooks seat firmly into draft link pins.
  • Engage Parking Brake
   

 

Step 3: Remove Backhoe Lock Pins

  • Remove backhoe boom lock pin (E) and swing lock pin (J)
  •    

     

    Step 4: Align Backhoe Subframe

  • Using the boom and stabilizer control levers, pivot the subframe on the draft link pins until the holes in the subrame front end (F) align with holes in front hanger (G).

    Step 5: Install Pins and Drive away

  • Install step pins (H) in front hanger and secure with locking pins (I).
  • Make sure hydraulic hoses are routed away from pinch points. 
  • Drive away.

    Removing the John Deere 46 Backhoe:

     
     

    Step 1: Lower Backhoe

    • Lower stabilizers and bucket.
    • Center boom and install swing lock pin (A).
    • Remove Boom Locking Pin (B).
    • Rotate bucket until teeth are parallel to the ground.
    • Turn off Tractor
       




     

    Step 2: Remove Backhoe

    • Remove front step pins (D) from both front hangers.
    • Start Engine
    • Lowering the boom and stabilizers, pivot subframe on rear hanger to lower front hanger end of subframe to the ground, until rear mounting support is free of subframe weight.
       


     

    Step 3: Disconnect Hydraulic Hoses

    • Disconnect backhoe hoses from tractor power beyond.
    • Connect hoses together and store hoses out of the way of backhoe.
    • Connect Power Beyond Hose (G) to female coupler (H).
       
       

    Step 4: Drive Away

  • Drive Tractor ahead slowly until both subframe hooks (E) clear mounting support draft link pins (F).
